June 2008 Featured Dog HiQ Fergus
HiQ Fergus

Fergus joined the Knox family in 2001

Fergus is described by his owners as a one-in-a-million dog!  He started in the sport of disc dog with Gage Knox, a junior handler, and held the furthest catch record for quite some time, then he moved on to agility.

Gage and Fergus quickly went from starters to masters in no time!  When Gage moved out it was up to mom, Susan, to take over with Fergus.  Susan had never run a dog in agility before and she was thrown right in to handling Fergus in Masters!  But Susan did it and Fergus earned his Agility Trial Champion title.  Susan also ran Fergus in the Nationals!

Then when Susan's husband, Chris, showed an interest in running agility Fergus began to run for him.  In 2008 it was Chris that took Fergus to the Ontario Regionals and once again Fergus qualified for the Nationals!

Fergus at the AAC Nationals 2007

Fergus is well known at agility trials for his "run for anybody" happy outlook, but don't be fooled, he is a great competitor.  The Knoxes say that Fergus thinks he is a person.   This is reflected in the fact that at agility trials he never thought a crate was a suitable place for him to wait, not when there were perfectly good chairs there!
When no one was looking Fergus would jump in a chair and settle in until it was his turn to run.
Soon everyone was saying that Fergus needed his own chair... so he got one!

Fergus is a stealth kisser and it is a rare person who can sneak by without Fergus planting a big wet kiss on them!  The Knoxes say he seemed to just instinctively know not to steal food or do mischievious things and they never had to train him not too.  Fergus never lets you down.  He always does his best and he is a very honest dog.  He could not care less about other dogs, he only cares about pleasing HIS humans.

Fergus loves agility and now has his AAC Silver Award of Merit.  His love of agility is quickly followed by his love of Fisbees and he is a CDDA Champion Disc Dog.  His next love is SWIMMING!!

Fergus will soon be joined by a new little gaffer.  The Knoxes have decided that one of Tribble's upcoming puppies should go home with them too.  That little puppy will have a great "big brother" to look up to.
May 2008 Featured Dog HiQ "Ben"

BEN
Ben recently passed away.
We extend our sympathies to Ben's Family
and hope you enjoy this small celebration of his life.

Our Ben would have been thirteen next month -
my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I got him from you
(HiQ Borders) when we were just starting university.

He lived half his life in Toronto, as one of the city's great cultured urban dogs,
and an outdoorsman to boot.

He came everywhere with us in the city, acted in plays, climbed the highest mountains in eastern North America, guided us on countless mountain bike rides, and paddled all the major rivers in southern Ontario.

He was a gentle, welcoming friend to everyone.
For the last seven years, we've lived in Nova Scotia on an old farmstead.

Ben loved the beach and soon the kids that came along in our lives.

He was a great mentor to all the Border collie foster dogs that
have come through our house through the rescue.

We knew his time was coming -
Ben enjoyed a last trip to Toronto recently to see his family
and died of heart failure at home 3 days after our return
(he had tumours around his heart).

He was a super guy and we miss him very much.

Dave R. Nova Scotia, Can. (Ben – Trekki X Boscoe)

We are pleased to add that Dave and his family now have a new HiQ addition!
Little Bean, Twigg's puppy recently joined their family.
We hope Bean will have the same full life as Ben
and continue to bring joy to her new family

April 2008 Featured Dog HiQ Zephyr
HiQ Zephyr
"Zephyr"

Erin and Zephyr are a great team.  Erin calls Zephyr her once in a lifetime dog!  Zephyr is a loving dog at home and is best friends with Liam the newest addition to the family.

Erin says he makes them laugh daily, but when it comes to competing he is very honest and gives it his all!  He is a very fast high drive sports dog and he has an excellent off switch both in his crate at trials and in the house. He loves everybody and is great with children.

Zephyr is red and white and is a neutered male.  His parents are HiQ Omnipotent "Q" and Kyle of Lochalsh.

He is a full brother to Tribble, Zed, Fergus and Bogey.  He is 21 1/2" at the shoulder, jumps 26" in agility.  He has only competed twice in flyball tournaments but ran several 3.9's.

Zephyr also herds sheep and studies hard!

He has done lots of demos and will be at the National Home Show in April on the weekends.
Despite Erin's busy schedule, having a baby, and being seriously injured in a car accident Erin has still somehow found the time to sneak out to some trials. Zephyr has earned the following titles
RPT
DD-Disc Dog
FdCH-S-Flyball Dog Champion Silver
ADC-Agility Dog of Canada
AGDC-Advanced Game Dog of Canada
MJDC-Master Jumper Dog of Canada
MSCDC-Master Steeplechase Dog of Canada
JHD-Junior herding dog
HTAD1-S-Herding Trial Arena Dog on sheep

Zephyr placed an amazing 2nd at the

March 2008 Featured Dog HiQ AMAZE

HiQ AMAZE
"Turbo"

Turbo and Redas take Lithuania by storm!
Find out more about our featured dog below!

HIQ AMAZE
"TURBO"

Turbo is a HiQ Puzzle and Tripp puppy that has just reached the age that he can start to compete and, wow, has he started with a bang!  He entered his first official agility competition in Europe and WON!  Even though he is not a very big dog all the dogs in Europe have to jump 26".  Turbo is having no trouble holding his own over the 26" jumps against much bigger dogs.  Although agility is his main activity Turbo also does some herding.  As part of the European breeding rating system all dogs must compete in conformation.  We don't breed for show conformation, but we know that our dogs are structurally strong and well put together.  The Europeans obviously agree as Turbo went Best in Breed in his first show!  Congratulations Turbo and your talented owner Redas!
